Crib Quilts

I’ve also enjoyed making several baby quilts, including a Pinwheel quilt for my Goddaughter (I love the “angel bears” fabric in the outer borders and some of the setting squares), a Weathervane Quilt, a Rainbow Stars quilt, a Nine-Patch quilt, and a Double Irish Chain quilt.

Fabric Packet Sampler Swap

In 1995, I hosted the “Fabric Packet Sampler Swap,” or FPSS, for members of rec.crafts.textiles.quilting and Quiltnet. For this exchange, participants assembled a packet of fabrics and mailed it to the next person in the circle. (I used groups of twelve.) That person pieced a sampler block for the packet’s owner using fabrics from the packet as well as coordinating fabrics… read more »

Round Robin Quilts

Participating in round robins also helped me improve my skills – and as you might have guessed, inspired my second novel. I contributed the twisted ribbon border to this round robin top, and liked it so much I used it in Sarah’s Sampler in The Quilter’s Apprentice.  For the second, I contributed the zigzag border. … read more »

Heather's Library

An original design made in honor of my sister when she received her Master of Library Science degree from UCLA. I found the perfect fabric for the globe, which you can see in this close up. The Mariner’s Compass represented our wishes for his safe journey home—and our… read more »

A Triple Irish Chain quilt I made as a birthday gift for my husband. I used several of his favorite Notre Dame T-shirts and sweatshirts he had been wearing (and wearing out) since college. (1/97)

Vineyard Star

The name for this Log Cabin eight-pointed star variation came from the grapevine-motif fabric I used for the outer border. This is a computer-drafted, foundation paper pieced pattern. (Click here for the pattern and assembly instructions for this quilt.)

Watercolor Quilt

This quilt is based upon a design from a book by Pat Maixner Magaret and Donna Ingram Slusser. It turned out nice—but much larger than expected, because I thought I was supposed to add a half-inch to each two-inch square for the seam allowance!

Little Fans

A friend of my mother-in-law selected the pattern from American Patchwork and Quilting magazine and purchased the fabric; I made the quilt for her.

Potholders

I made these potholders for the sales reps of Simon & Schuster to thank them for their hard work. (These six-inch blocks are the same patterns that appear in Sarah’s Sampler.) When my husband saw the finished potholders spread out on the floor, he dubbed them “The Potholder Armada.” I liked the name so much I’ve used it ever since!
