Dorothea’s Collection

Inspired by the heroine of The Sugar Camp Quilt, Jennifer Chiaverini's latest fabric line blends historical designs and contemporary colors to create a mix of patterns as delightful and intriguing as Dorothea herself. The Signature Floral print, featuring the narcissus, water lily, and rose, draws upon the nineteenth-century "Language of Flowers" -- the conceit that every flower has a symbolic meaning and that arrangements of flowers can send coded messages. The Maple Leaf print evokes Uncle Jacob's sugar camp, a sanctuary on the underground railroad, and the Celestial print calls to mind the many runaways who followed the North Star to freedom. From mill engravings to eccentrics, the lovely florals and geometrics of Dorothea's Collection are a beautiful interpretation of mid-nineteenth century quiltmakers' favorites for modern quilters to enjoy.
