Sarah’s Twins: Cast Your “Vote!”

Monday, May 24, 2010 | Charity, Contests & Giveaways

UPDATE: The voting deadline has passed. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Jennifer Chiaverini is teaming up with Project Linus to offer Elm Creek Readers the chance to decide whether Sarah’s twins will be boys, girls, or one of each!

Here’s how to cast your vote:

1. Download the Twin Star pattern from Jennifer’s website.

2. If you’d like Sarah to have two boys, sew a Twin Star block using the dark blue/light blue color combination. If you’d like Sarah to have two girls, sew a Twin Star block using the red/pink color combination. If you’d like Sarah to have a boy and a girl, sew a Twin Star block using the dark purple/light purple color combination. Please use white, off-white, light cream, or light beige for the background fabrics.

3. Mail your block to: Elm Creek Quilts, P. O. Box 620824, Middleton WI 53562 USA. All blocks must be received by Labor Day (Monday, September 6, 2010) to be counted. You may “vote” as many times as you wish, so feel free to stuff the ballot box!

4. All blocks received will be donated to Project Linus, a non-profit organization whose mission is “to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer ‘blanketeers.’ ”

5. Jennifer will reveal the result of the vote in an exclusive, sneak preview reading of an unpublished Elm Creek Quilts novel at the Project Linus Institute on Friday, July 22, 2011. Quilts created from the donated blocks will also be displayed.

Each “vote” you cast will mean another block for a warm, cozy quilt that will comfort a child in need—so vote early and often!

This is a wonderful idea. I wondered which the twins would be when I read it in the book. I hope it’s one of each like my daughter had.

Hello, I spoke over your book with Caroline and we are making it.  I ask to my mother her idee for the twins (she is 90 ans she likes so much your books). I send you two answers (2 blocs), the mine and this of my mother.  I like your idee to give it to a mission.  Friendly, Fernande

Hi Jennifer, What a wonderful idea for the quilts. I love all of your books, but I think the Aloha Quilt may be the favorite. I volunteer at our local library and the girl I work with there and I are re-reading all your books after we read the Aloha Quilt. I am even more amazed this time by all your details. The girl I work with has asked me to teach her to make a block for the twins quilt also. We think you will get a lot!  Keep up the good work. Prayers and good wishes for you and your lovely family.

Having read all of the Elm Creek books, I feel part of the “family” and have been thinking about Sarah and her babies.  So, I’ll share in the fun and make a block.  Thanks for doing this….It is such a GREAT cause!

Hugs, Karen

What a wonderful idea!!  I am making two quilts now for a lady at work who is having twins in about a month.  Making a few more blocks that will go for another child will be a pleasure.  Can’t wait to find out what Sarah’s twins will be!

Jennifer,
I am so enthralled with your books in the Elm Creek series, and I truly believe that you are an angel for devising this way for your readers to become involved in your next book and at the same time helping children in need with the quilt blocks.

I haven’t read all of them, but I own every one.  I will definitely finish them all this year, and hope that you continue writing them.  I feel that I have become friends with all of the characters.

Thanks again,  Pam

Oh goodie!  Another reason to go to the local quilt shop!  The Linus Project is a wonderful cause.  I think two girls… future quilters that will bring all their friends to Elm Creek for a beginners quilting camp! We should all be encouraging young quilters!  Thanks for the opportunity ~Kim

To answer your questions in order, ghaweyn:

1. Sarah has the twins in THE WEDDING QUILT. If you read the excerpt from Chapter One available on this website, you will see some of her childbirth experience.

2. Unless you attended the special Project Linus fundraiser preview, you will have to read THE WEDDING QUILT to find out whether Sarah had boys, girls, or one of each. I am not going to spoil that surprise here! grin

3. How can part of the book be told from the perspective of 20 years in the future? Well, quite easily, actually. I simply wrote it that way. grin Most of the story takes place in the contemporary era most Elm Creek Readers are already familiar with (the early to mid 2000’s), but in order to resolve the various story lines readers have told me they are most interested in, a different structure was necessary. Thus those “contemporary” plots are explored in flashbacks as Sarah reflects upon important events and people in her life. This is NOT the end of the series, nor is it the end of the contemporary characters’ presence in the series. I return to historical fiction in SONOMA ROSE (February 2012), but the novel I am currently writing, THE GIVING QUILT, returns us to to approximately 2008. (I don’t have a contract for this book yet, so no publication date to announce at this time.)

The structure of THE WEDDING QUILT shouldn’t be an occasion for anger. grin Have faith. If you are a longtime, loyal reader of the Elm Creek Quilts series, you will find much to enjoy in THE WEDDING QUILT. You can begin by reading the excerpt available on this website.

Jennifer, I love your books and have read all of them so far.  I apologize if I sounded angry.  I am not.  I am confused and concerned.  I’m sure you would have figured it all out in the storyline in how to break the news.  But my confusion comes in to play when I think, “Wow, Sylvia must be dead by now if Sarah’s daughter is getting married!  Oh no.”  I also have a memory (which could be wrong) of Sarah already having the babies and us already knowing what she had.

I am jsut a confused reader, but in a happy way.  I will leave you to tell the story the way you need to and I’ll stop doubting your ways.

I love you as a talented writer and for the characters, as real friends, you have brought into my life.
