Research Question
Saturday, December 13, 2008 | Announcements
Hello, quilting friends! This may be the oddest research question I've had for you yet, but you've never let me down before.
Do you know of any celebrities who quilt? Not quilting celebrities, such as Ami Simms or Alex Anderson, who are celebrities of the quilting world, but famous people or personalities who enjoy quilting?
There must be at least a few, don't you think?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Jennifer

Marie Osmond was at Quilters Market, 2008, in Houston, showing her new fabric desings. www.jeanboyduppercanadaquiltworks.blogspot.com
I also remember watching a program a few years ago where Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady of “The Brady Bunch”) was making a simple quilt.
Best wishes with your next book. I’ve enjoyed them all!
I read somewhere that Katie Holmes made a quilt for Tom Cruise. I think it was a photo quilt. And I know that I read that Nicole Kidman likes to go to the quilt shows, but I don’t know if she quilts. I’m sure you’ve seen the movie “How to make an American quilt” There’s a book about the stunt quilters, and it talks about how Anne Bancroft had quilted previously, and how one of the stunt quilters finished a UFO Bancroft has started in an earlier film. Here’s the info on that book - “How to Pieces of An American Quilt by Patty McCormick
C&T Publishing, 1996 Softcover, 96 pages. Are we going to see a famous person in the next book????
S. Epatha Merkerson, the female boss on Law and Order has been a quilter for years.

I believe I read that Lindsay Lohan learned to quilt while she was in rehab in Utah. She was stitching embroideries and then combining them into a quilt. I don’t know if that makes her a “quilter” but apparently she’s given it a try.
Here is a quilt signed by Marie Osmond, I’m assuming it is her fabric and quilt, although the design is by someone else.

Hello and Merry Christmas!!!
I believe that Marie Osmond quilts…I have heard of others but I can’t think of them right now. I know that Marie is from my generation, but she is still in the spotlight and she also is entering the quilting world too with her fabrics.
I hope that you have a great time of family and friends…
Gayla
Does Marie Osmand count?!?!
Hello,
I saw S. Epatha Merkerson at City Quilter in Manhattan a couple of years ago!
Lindsay T blogged about celebrity quilters here:

and here:

I saw Marie Osmond at Quilt Market in Houston in 2008, too!
Hi Jennifer, Tricia Cast (who used to play a character on the Young and the Restless) once made an incredible Crazy Quilt for Christine Bell’s wedding gift in real life. I believe Alex Anderson did a little video on one of her shows showcasing the quilt. I’m not sure if she’s a big enough celebrity, but her quilt was beautiful. Julie in NH
Do political celebrities count? Here in LA, powerful activist Gloria Molina, is a avid quilter. She is rather amazing.
Jennifer, I cant believe there has not been any comments on this subject. I am a die-hard Young &Restless; viewer and fan. Tricia Cast who played ‘Nina’ is a quilter. She was featured on Alex Andersons show one time. I hope this helps and I hope you find more celebrity quilters. Sandra Phillips
I know Rosie Greer, the former NFL player does needlework and I thought he also did quilting but not sure about that. Might be worth checking out. Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.
Barbara/Kyana
Happy New Year Jennifer :o)
I noticed in reading a bio on Terry Farrell of Star Trek Deep Space Nine fame that she is a quilter. Yeah!!!
Hope this furthers along your reserch.
Anxious for “The Lost Quilter”, thanks again for all your wonderful stories.
Hi! I believe I read somwhere that S. Epatha Merkerson of LAW & ORDER is a quilter…...........also have seen many quilts on walls in the background of GUIDING LIGHT sets…..............I absolutely love your books and feel as if the ladies are personal friends! I even have a friend who is not a quilter, read one of your books from the library and then decided to buy each one for a complete set!
Marie Osmond is the only one that I have heard talk about quilting.
Jane Austen made a quilt in the early 1800s. There is now a reproduction line. The pattern is on line at some of the Jane Austen sites.
Dr. N. Jan Davis, astronaut, also quilts. She has taken projects into space on her missions, although she probably didn’t have time to work on them. She designed a scherrenschnitte (paper cutting) style block with the space shuttle in it.
Meg Cox wrote for the Wall Street Journal for many years, and has written non-quilt books…
Do scientists and mathematicians count? After all, they are celebrities in their fields too.
Phyllis George (former Miss America) is a quilter. Many years ago, there was a feature on her in one of the quilting magazines.
Last year after my sister-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer I wanted to make her a small “lap” quilt to cover her legs while in a wheel chair. I needed a fast quilt as it was an aggressive ugly cancer. I decided to use Eleanor Burns, candy cane lane design. I used pink fabrics some with the pink ribbons. During some of my reading I thought I saw where Lynn Redgrave quilted for Breast Cancer Charities. I don’t know how accurate that information is or if I am remembering correctly, that however is the first name to pop in my mind. I also quilted 2 comfort caps for my sister-in-law Claudette Hill, may she rest in peace. Those were a free downloadable pattern from Viking. Best wishes on your continued success without your friend.
Just wanted to say how much I love your books. They’re like a favorite robe, so comfortable and relaxing. You want to get to know all the characters.
Also, I believe Marie Osmond is a quilter. You’ve probably already gotten her name from someone else since I’m new to the website.
lexygram
I think Marie Osmond quilts.
I’m new to your site as well, but I know Marie Osmond quilts, she also represents a line of fabric and sewing/quilting machines.
On a side note, I am addicted to your books, I have not read any of them in a specific order, so it is always a surprise when I begin a book and then it refers to characters from the other books I have read! Keep on writing those books.
I have two of the three pattern books as well.
Thank you!
I believe Mary Englebreit quilts also. May not be movie star but celebrity in my book
You probably have this name… Marie Osmond
Your comments are welcome!
