The Lost Quilter

The Lost Quilter: An Elm Creek Quilts Novel Jennifer Chiaverini. Simon & Schuster, $24 (352p) ISBN 978-1-4165-3316-0

In her 14th series installment, Chiaverini picks up the threads from The Runaway Quilt to spin another tale of adventure, love, perseverance and, of course, quilting. When Sylvia Bergstrom Compson and her staff find a stash of old letters hidden in an antique desk in the manor's attic, the story whips back to 1859 to recount the travails of the formidable Joanna North, an escaped slave who spent a brief respite at Elm Creek Farm. Joanna is recaptured and sent back to the Virginia plantation she thought she had finally escaped, and is eventually dispatched to Charleston to work under her former master's demanding newlywed niece, Miss Evangeline. As the Civil War looms, Joanna learns that for a slave, nothing—love, family, loyalty—is sacred or certain, and she never ceases plotting her final escape in the patterns of her scrap quilting. This satisfying and redemptive narrative unfolds with cinematic clarity, and Joanna's journey is sure to have readers holding their breath for her until the last page. (Apr.)

THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU! I’ve been waiting for this book ever since I finished the Runaway Quilt. I am sooo grateful for the new book! I have read all the previous ones and they are a permanent feature of the bookshelf. I read them over and over; they are that good. Again, thanks for all your wonderful hard work. These books are a bright spot in all of today’s doom and gloom!

Hi Jennifer,
Wow, what a great first chapter for your new book.  I can’t wait to read the rest of the story.  I love being immersed in Elm Creek Manor with Sylvia.  You are so descriptive that I feel like I am right there.  You are wonderful with words.  Please keep up the superb job.

Jennifer,  You were asking if any celebrities quilt.  I believe Marie Osmond quilts, she was taught by her mother.

I have read all your books and just finished The Lost Quilter.  I loved it and as with all your other books, I didn’t want it to end.
I look forward and eagerly anticipate your next book, I hope the Elm Creek series never ends!  Of all the quilting related books I have read, yours are by far my all time favorite.

I just finished reading The Lost Quilter.  I loved it and could hardly put it down.  Joanna’s story was spell-binding.  I can only imagine what slaves of the civil war era experienced.  The book included love, suspence, and history all rolled into one!  Thank you for such an inspirational book.

I have read all of your books. The Lost Quilter was amazing. I recommended it for my book club to read. I plan to lead the discussion and wanted to know if you have questions you would recommend for the discussion.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

“The Lost Quilter” is the first of your books that I have read.  I so appreciate that the book stood alone, and I hadn’t missed the story because I hadn’t read “The Runaway Quilt”.  The story was so gripping that I literally could not put it down and read it in two days.  I’m looking forward to reading all of your other books!
